Motor Mechanic Apprenticeships
Each year in the UK, more than 1.5 million cars, 100,000 commercial vehicles and 2.3 million engines are built according to SMMT figures – and those are just the new additions to what’s already on the roads and anything imported from overseas.
Motor mechanic apprenticeships give you hands-on experience and qualifications to support your entry into a career inspecting and maintaining vehicles, including repairing and replacing broken parts and advanced skills like wheel alignment.
What is a motor mechanic apprenticeship?
ProCo offer motor mechanic apprenticeships that give you access to training in a real workplace, with a real employer, as well as a study programme at our learning facilities in Wigan.
For our own part of the programme, we have developed realistic mechanics’ garage settings, and as such, we are perfectly placed to teach you the theory behind mechanics and motor repair in a hands-on way too.
To find out more about how we teach vocational subjects like motor mechanics, give ProCo a call and we will be happy to talk through our study programmes and apprenticeships with you.
What qualifications will I get?
Depending on the level of your apprenticeship, you will qualify for an equivalent motor mechanic NVQ, with practical assessments and observations to help anyone who does not do well in an academic exam setting.
In many cases, much of your assessment will take place actually on the job, so you don’t face an unfamiliar environment and all the stress that can bring with it – and the qualifications you gain can count towards eligibility for higher courses or even a university application.
What are the benefits of a motor mechanic apprenticeship?
There are plenty of ways to study the theory behind engine tune-ups and replacing car parts, but at some point, you have to get your hands dirty to really understand how a car fits together and how to repair it when it’s broken.
A motor mechanic apprenticeship offers the perfect balance between the two – practical experience that will serve you well throughout your career, but also the qualification that you can show to employers as proof of your capabilities.
How do I apply?
ProCo welcome all applications, especially for entry-level apprenticeships that require little to no prior experience. If you are interested in taking your studies to a higher level, we can help you to work out what you need to do to be eligible for those courses too.
To apply, fill in our online form to give us all the essential information we need to find you a suitable motor mechanic apprenticeship or give us a call to talk through the options.
