Animal Care Study Programmes

Animal care study programmes give you a chance to learn important aspects of working with animals, whether the 16 million cats and dogs UK homes have as pets, or the 900 million animals reared by the agricultural industry.

RSPCA figures show there are 20 million pets in the UK in total, not including fish, while animals also play a role in several other sectors, for example the four million scientific procedures each year that involve animals as test subjects.

Whether you go into a role protecting the welfare of working animals, or a career in grooming or veterinary assistance, ProCo’s animal care study programmes give you the grounding you need to handle and feed animals of all kinds safely.

What will I learn?

ProCo animal care study programmes teach you the main elements of looking after animals, from common species kept as farm animals or domestic pets, to more exotic species on our higher level courses.

As your training progresses, you’ll pick up practical skills such as the safe handling of different animals, appropriate ways to feed them, and so on.

Who are animal care study programmes open to?

Generally speaking, if you are interested in working with animals, we are highly likely to have a study programme to suit your needs.

From our entry level course right up to our Level 2 and 3 Diplomas, you can take your studies into as much detail as you wish, before moving on to higher education or into an animal care career.

What qualifications will I gain?

Our animal care study programmes train you towards gaining an NVQ qualification, with several different levels available to suit your past experience and future ambition.

In many cases, trainees who complete a Level 1 study programme go on to study at Level 2 or higher, and ProCo are proud to help all of our learners reach the highest level of qualification possible.

Available animal care study programmes

We are able to offer Entry Level 3 qualifications at our Montrose site. This qualification is not offered by many providers.

At Level 1 we offer Land Based Studies (Animal Care), a general overview of handling and moving live animals, in domestic, agricultural and wild settings, and other related skills.

At Level 2 we provide both an Animal Care Extended Certificate and an Animal Care Diploma programme. The Extended Certificate covers aspects of animal accommodation, health and welfare. The Diploma includes grooming and touches on some exotic species too.

We have 26 different species of animals from small domestic animals, reptiles and farm livestock on our urban farm.  This makes us the number one choice to learn and train in the animal care industry as learners gain first hand experience from highly experienced and inspirational tutors.

Our Level 3 Animal Management Diploma programme is our most advanced animal care training course and can help you qualify for university entry, or go directly into employment managing animal accommodation, feeding, animal health and handling exotic species.
